What is a Patiala Salwar?

Among the Salwar Kameez designs, Patiala salwars have become extremely popular. The term Patiala comes from a place Patiala in Punjab, India. The place has traditional culture and values. The belief is that the Maharaja of Patiala wore a baggy type of pants with short length kurta. With time, his outfit was adapted by women who choose to wear Kameez of the regular Salwar Kameez with Patiala Salwar.

Patiala Salwar is basically the baggy version of a regular salwar. The waist area is constructed like a regular salwar but lower i.e leg area of a Patiala Salwar has many pleats at front and back, giving it a very loose or baggy look. Though it is little heavier to carry but it is still quite comfortable to wear. To give maximum visibility to the pleats of Patiala Salwar, the Kameez is usually little shorter than the regular Kameez. There is no restriction about the style, design, print or work of Patiala Salwar Kameez, however it seems that a Patiala Salwar drapes the best in Georgette (Lined), Crepe and Cotton Fabrics.
